The Chevrolet Silverado is the sliver of GM left present in Australia after both the Commodore and Colorado met their end here, but the latter of those two lives on in America, and now there’s a tough new version that could have been great here in Australia.
The Colorado that Chevrolet builds for the US and the one Holden sold here are two different models despite having the same basis and name, so the one that lives on isn’t available in Australia.
And that means we won’t get access to the new Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison, a tough, off-road focused version of GM’s ute that could give the new Toyota Tacoma or the Ford Ranger Raptor a run for its ruggedness.

Like the Colorado ZR2, the Bison runs a 2.7-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine with 231kW of power and 530Nm of torque, with an eight-speed automatic transmission putting power to its 4x4 system.
But with it comes a set of modifications Chevrolet has made in collaboration with off-road outfit American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), including a set of custom Multimatic front and rear dampers, AEV’s flares, bumpers and winches, plus a series of skid plates to protect its underbody.

It comes just after Toyota’s new Tacoma was revealed as the off-roading and adventure-focused US cousin to the HiLux, while the Ford Ranger has just launched in the US.
It won’t likely come to Australia, unless GMSV and Walkinshaw change their minds on importing the Colorado for right-hand conversion.
