Nissan has recalled 11,107 petrol versions of its popular Qashqai SUV sold between 2022 and 2024 over concerns a manufacturing defect could lead to a vehicle fire.
A recall notice published by Australia’s national vehicle recall regulator reads: “Due to a manufacturing defect, the wiring harness near the 12-volt battery may have been incorrectly assembled.
“As a result, the harness retaining nut can become loose and increase electrical resistance which may lead to a vehicle fire.”
In extreme cases, the recall notice said: “A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property.”
Owners of Qashqais built between the period outlined above will be contacted by Nissan Australia asking them to schedule an appointment at their local dealership to have their wiring harness connections tightened to the correct specifications, free of charge.
Alternatively, buyers can look up their VIN number on the Australian government’s website here.
