Honda Australia has confirmed pricing for the Civic Type R Limited Edition hot hatch as well as a lottery for 19 of the 20 examples available locally from the second quarter of next year.

Priced from $70,000 driveaway, the Limited Edition is close to $10,000 dearer than the recently facelifted ‘regular’ Civic Type R ($54,990 plus on-road costs), positioning it well below the similarly conceived Renault Megane RS Trophy-R ($74,990 plus-on road costs).

Limited Edition buyers are compensated for the extra spend with a revising steering calibration, retuned dampers and 20-inch BBS alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres being introduced over the regular Civic Type R.

The Limited Edition goes a little further in its quest “to be the most dynamic front-wheel-drive hatchback available” by removing sound deadening from the regular Civic Type R’s front bumper, dashboard, roof and tailgate to save weight.

Furthermore, the Limited Edition picks up Sunlight Yellow paintwork with gloss-black accents for the bonnet scoop, side mirrors and roof, while a dark-chrome badging features on its tailgate to also help it stand out from the Civic Type R crowd.

No changes have been made to the regular Civic Type R's 228kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine for the Limited Edition, which is also mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard.

Since the Limited Edition was revealed in February, more than 700 people have registered their interest in the hottest Civic Type R yet via the Honda Australia website.

Due to this apparent high demand (and Stage 4 restrictions in Victoria), 19 examples will be allocated to buyers via a lottery that will be drawn in November, with its entries to be taken by Honda Australia from 9.00am on October 1 (AEST) to 8.00pm on October 31 (AEDT).

If successful, entrants will have the option to place a $5000 deposit and proceed with their purchase, but if they change their mind, their allocation will be given to the next in line.

The one example (serial number AUS-001) not set for the lottery will be initial retained by Honda Australia for promotional purposes. For reference, 1020 examples will be produced for global sales.

Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum. That said, despite loving cars and writing, Justin chose to pursue career paths that didn’t lend themselves to automotive journalism, before eventually ending up working as a computer technician. But that car itch just couldn’t be scratched by his chipped Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7), so he finally decided to give into the inevitable and study a Master of Journalism at the same time. And even with the long odds, Justin was lucky enough to land a full-time job as a motoring journalist soon after graduating and the rest, as they say, is history. These days, Justin happily finds himself working at CarsGuide during the biggest period of change yet for the automotive industry, which is perhaps the most exciting part of all. In case you’re wondering, Justin begrudgingly sold the Golf R (sans chip) and still has plans to buy his dream car, an E46 BMW M3 coupe (manual, of course), but he is in desperate need of a second car space – or maybe a third.
