Renault Australia has updated its Captur small SUV range for 2019 with a new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine, as well as new standard equipment such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring for an overall better value approach to competitors such as the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and Toyota C-HR.
Replacing the former 88kW/190Nm 1.2-litre turbo engine in the Captur range is a new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, which produces 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque at 1600rpm.
Featuring in all automatic variants of the Captur range, pricing for the new engine starts at $25,990 plus on-road costs.
A new media system is also standard across the Captur range that now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring tech.
The Captur offers three different models in Australia: the Zen, Intens and Intens S-Edition.
The Zen ($21,990 manual, $25,990 automatic) is equipped with features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, automatic headlights with LED daytime running lights, push button start and satellite navigation.
The mid-spec Captur Intens ($29,990) then adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, automatic parking with front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, bi-LED headlights, half-leather/cloth upholstery and satellite navigation, with the Captur Intens S-Edition ($30,490) then adding metallic paint, half-leather/cloth upholstery and a Bose sound system.
Co-developed with Daimler, Renault claims that the new 1.3-litre engine uses 5.4L/100km on a combined cycle, while emitting 120g/km of CO2.
Able to sprint from 0-100km/h in 9.2sec, the Captur 1.3-litre turbo is almost four seconds faster to 100km/h than the Captur 0.9-litre turbo manual, which is still available in base Zen trim and uses 5.2L/100km.
