Subaru has unveiled a trio of new models at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, one of which being a new model for the brand’s line-up in the form of an electric off-roader.

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker electric car joins the Subaru Solterra, which was also revealed at the show with an update, as the second electric car in its line-up.

Not only does Subaru spruik the Trailseeker as having more cargo space than the Solterra, but also a Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, 211mm of ground clearance and a fairly handy 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time of 4.4 seconds.

With a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery and a total 280kW output, the Trailseeker’s electric driving range doesn’t exactly scream ‘adventure’, Subaru claims it’s “more than 260 miles” or about 420km.

It does also have a towing capacity of 3500 pounds, or just under 1600kg, though putting that to use would put a proper dent in the Trailseeker’s already short range.

Charging is done via an “estimated” maximum charging speed of 150kW, which is slower than many rivals with 250kW or more as a maximum charge rate, while Subaru does say the Trailseeker has a 120V outlet for powering appliances on the go.

CarsGuide has contacted Subaru Australia for more information regarding the Trailseeker and whether it might land Down Under at some point, but a brand spokesperson didn’t comment specifically on the model.

“Subaru’s latest global unveilings at the New York International Auto Show provide an exciting glimpse into the brand’s future,” CarsGuide was told.

“We look forward to sharing what these global debuts mean for the Australian market in due course.”

According to reports, the Trailseeker was developed primarily with North America in mind, so it’s not clear if it will even be built in right-hand drive.

It’s set to go on sale in the US in 2026.
