Tank for the trails! 2023 GWM Tank 300 SUV gets off-road mod treatment by Arctic Trucks

The Tank 300 ‘AT35’ features ‘75 new unique components’ Arctic Trucks says.

GWM’s Tank 300 might not be the most hardcore off-roader, even having proven some decent capability in our own CarsGuide off-road review, but the Russian arm of a 4x4 modification company has now made it even more capable.

With the upgraded version of the 300 dubbed the Tank AT35, Arctic Trucks’ Russian arm is behind the off-road focused modifications which include 75 new unique components.

A suspension lift along with adjustable dampers “for different road conditions” are two of the key changes the company has made.

In the stock Tank 300, ground clearance is 224mm, but Arctic Trucks has lifted clearance 48mm, and the approach and departure angles are increased by seven and eight per cent, respectively, up from base angles of 33 and 34 degrees (no rampover angle is listed)

Bigger 35-inch off-road tyres replace the somewhat limiting road tyres, and are tucked in under wheel arch extensions that give the AT35 a tougher look.

“The Tank 300 in the AT35 modification is not just a car, it is a unique way to explore the world, where a new reality opens up opportunities for exciting travel,” the brand says (translated to English from Russian).

Arctic Trucks has lifted the Tank 300's ground clearance by 48mm.

Arctic Trucks was created to meet a need for modified Toyota LandCruisers in Iceland, and the brand now has divisions in Norway, Finland, Poland, the UK, the Middle East and the US, while its Russian outpost appears to be solely responsible for the modified Tank 300.

The modifications won’t be available in Australia, where you can instead have a stock standard Tank 300 from $46,990 drive-away in petrol guise (with 162kW/380Nm), or from $55,990 drive-away in hybrid form (258kW/615Nm) - both employing a 2.0-litre petrol engine in their powertrains.
