The next generation of Toyota Prado is still a while off its reveal, but reports from Japan are honing in on the details of its drivetrain and design.

Japanese magazine Best Car has created a digital render of the next-generation Toyota LandCruiser Prado to accompany a report in which it says the model will gain a hybrid powertrain currently used by the Toyota Tundra in the US.

That powertrain, called i-Force Max, makes use of a 326kW/790Nm hybrid 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, could also make its way to the full-sized LandCruiser 300 alongside the Prado.

Best Car has also previously suggested the next Prado could use the brand's Hybrid Max system, used in the US in the Crown, which employs a 253kW/542Nm electrically assisted turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol drivetrain - this appears to no longer be the case.

What we do know is the next Prado will have to adopt hybrid power of some kind, alongside its larger sibling, whether as the LC300 or the next version, likely called LC400.

"By 2030... we expect to have an electrified version of every model in our local range, excluding performance cars, and we will continue to evaluate all EVs for this market as they're made available," said Toyota Australia's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Sean Hanley at the start of 2023.

"It makes sense that the LandCruiser, the Prado, the HiLux and other commercial vehicles are going to have to adopt some sort of electrification as we get closer to (2030)," he also said.

It's expected the next Prado could be revealed at the end of 2023, with actual market launches to take place in 2023.
