The TT 45 TFSI Quattro is the mid-grade in Audi’s three-variant TT range, sitting above the 20 TFSI and below the TTS.

Identified by its 2.0-litre engine and namesake all-wheel drive system, the 45 TFSI drives 169kW/370Nm to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There is no longer a manual option in the TT range. Audi claims the 45 TFSI can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 5.3 seconds. It also claims fuel consumption of 6.6L/100km of premium 95RON fuel.

The 45 TFSI wears an MSRP of $79,900 and ships standard with what Audi says is “more than $5000 worth of additional value over the previous model”. The 45 TFSI comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, Audi’s signature 10.25-inch ‘virtual cockpit’ digital dashboard, heated and auto-folding mirrors, and a wireless Qi phone charging bay.

Interestingly, the TT does not have a central multimedia screen, instead multimedia functions, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, are managed through the Virtual Cockpit display in the driver’s binnacle.

The 45 TFSI can also be chosen with the S-Line sports package ($7,990), which increases specification to include 19-inch alloy wheels, S-Line exterior and interior highlights, Sports front seats, aluminium interior trimmings and a premium audio system.

The TT is a 2+2, meaning two (tight) seats in the back. It has a very limited selection of storage areas for all occupants. The boot capacity is 305 litres with the rear seats in place, and can be extended to 712L with the rear seats folded down.

The TT requires a minimum of 95RON petrol and has a 55-litre fuel tank.

Standard safety on the TT includes lane-keep assist (LKAS), blind-spot monitoring (BSM), but no auto emergency braking (AEB) or active cruise control of any kind. The TT has six airbags and front-wheel-drive versions (but not the Quattro) wear a four-star ANCAP rating as of June 2015.

All Audis carry a three-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and the TT requires servicing once every 12 months or 15,000km.

Despite studying ancient history and law at university, it makes sense Tom ended up writing about cars, as he spent the majority of his waking hours finding ways to drive as many as possible. His fascination with automobiles was also accompanied by an affinity for technology growing up, and he is just as comfortable tinkering with gadgets as he is behind the wheel. His time at CarsGuide has given him a nose for industry news and developments at the forefront of car technology.
