The Premium is the top-spec in the new and simplified Hyundai Sonata range. Its $45,490 list price is the same as the previous version, but Hyundai claims the extra kit with the new model adds $1000 of value.
The previous mid-spec Elite has been dropped from the range, meaning there’s now a $14,500 gap between the Premium and the $30,990 Active base model.
For 2018, the Premium gets a completely restyled nose and tail and new alloys. On the inside there’s an updated dash and steering wheel, and both models step up to an 8.0-inch multimedia screen with inbuilt sat nav and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Premium also gains LED headlights, driver fatigue alerts and a wireless Qi mobile phone charger.

The Premium also gets a new automatic with an extra pair of ratios, with the new eight-speed torque converter unit paired to the same 180kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine. As a result, the official combined fuel consumption figure is now 0.7L better at 8.5L/100km.
