Carsguide Managing Editor Tim Nicholson had this to say at the time: There’s little argument that Chery is focusing on value-for-money when it comes to its model range, and that’s absolutely the case with its new range opener - the Omoda 5 FX.

This is what Tim Nicholson liked most about this particular version of the Chery Omoda 5: Value-for-money, Neat and spacious cabin, Easy to use in-car tech
The Chery Omoda 5 2024 prices range from $22,220 for the basic trim level SUV FX to $41,030 for the top of the range SUV GT (awd).
Chery claims that the Omoda 5 GT was only ever going to be a limited-run model which is why it’s been axed just about a year after it was originally launched. If you are still keen on the car, then buying a 2024 model is your only option, as production of the car stopped a few months ago.
To clear showrooms of remaining stock, Chery is offering a $3000 discount on the driveaway price of both the GT and GT AWD, so maybe that will sway your decision.

The interior tone is set by the dual 10.25-inch LCD screens installed together across a sleek flat panel, one touch-sensitive for multimedia and other functions and the second for instrumentation and drive-information.
There’s more than enough breathing room in the front for even tall people, the away slope of the twin screen array helping to open up the space. And in the back, there’s adequate foot room, plenty of legroom and heaps of headroom as well as adjustable ventilation… big tick.
The Omoda 5 is available in ‘Titan Green’, ‘Space Black’, ‘Midnight Blue’, ‘Jupiter Blue’, ‘Lunar White’, ‘Saturn Silver’, ‘Mercurial Grey’ and ‘Martian Red’. On certain grades red accents on the wheels, exterior mirrors, lower part of the doors and roof spoiler can be combined with Lunar White, Mercurial Grey and Saturn Silver.
At a minimum all Omoda 5 model feature dual-zone climate-control, synthetic leather trim, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual 10.25-inch digital screens (media and instruments), eight-speaker Sony audio, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless device charging, LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail-lights, auto rain-sensing wipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, configurable (interior) ambient lighting plus keyless entry and start.

The Omoda 5 BX and EX are powered by a 108kW/210Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine sending drive to the front wheels through a CVT auto. The GT features a more powerful 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four pushing 137kW (at 5500rpm) and 275Nm (from 2000-4000rpm) to the front, or all four wheels, via a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.
Chery doesn’t quote a 0-100km/h figure for the Omoda 5 but expect a time in the mid-eight second range for the 1.5-litre BX and EX with the GT around a second quicker. Top speed ranges from approximately 190-200km/h.
The Omoda 5 offers 325 litres of boot space with all seats up, which is relatively modest, but you have more than 1000 litres with the 60/40 split rear seat folded. The GT AWD has 300 litres but the up-side is it gets a full-size alloy spare rather than a space saver, as in the other grades.
The Chery Omoda 5 is a compact five-seat SUV with the sport GT models featuring heated and power-adjustable sports front seats and synthetic leather trim.
The 1.5-litre Omoda 5 BX and EX have a theoretical range of approximately 740km, dropping to 690km for the 1.6L GT models.
