Though a five-seater, the Holden Equinox served as the Captiva replacement in the vital mid-size SUV class against the Toyota RAV4.
Launched in 2017, a trio of four-cylinder turbo engines were offered – a base 1.5-litre (manual or auto, LS only), mainstay 2.0 petrol auto (LT, LTZ) and a 1.6 diesel auto. The latter two engines offered all-wheel drive as an option to the standard front-wheel drive layout.
But slow sales saw the Mexican-made, Astra small-car based Equinnox discontinued, along with the Holden brand, in 2020.
Currently, the Equinox can be had in a variety of flavours from the $14,080 Equinox LT (fwd) to the $26,180 Equinox LTZ-V (awd).
All three of the engines used in the Holden Equinox (1.5 turbo-petrol, 2.0 turbo-petrol and 1.6 turbo-diesel) used a timing chain rather than a timing belt. While timing belts usually need periodic replacement, the timing chains fitted to the Holden engine should be good for the life of that engine.
The Chevrolet Equinox, also known as the Holden Equinox in Australasia, is built on General Motors' D2XX compact front-wheel-drive and crossover SUV platform. This means the Equinox is primarily a front-wheel-drive model though a part-time all-wheel-drive model is available. There are no 4WD Equinox models with low-range or lockable hubs.
The third-generation Equinox is 4652mm (183.1in).
The following Holden Equinox comes with five seats, including 60:40 split folding rear seats with under floor cargo storage. Both the LT and Black Edition variants are available only with Jet Black cloth trim, whereas the LTZ and LTZ-V come with Jet Black leather appointed trim.
The Holden Equinox's interior falls short of the styling highs we’ve seen in competitor cars. As shown in our road test review images, its dashboard and overall interior design isn’t as high-tech or sexy as, say, a Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson or Kia Sportage. Although, from the LTZ model up leather-appointed seat trim is standard, and it does have the practicality side of things sorted.
