This is what Ewan Kennedy liked most about this particular version of the Jaguar X Type: Comfortable suspension and light steering., Build quality is generally good.
The 2004 Jaguar X Type carries a braked towing capacity of up to 1500 Kg, but check to ensure this applies to the configuration you're considering.
I wouldn’t recommend either of them as a budget buy, unless you have deep pockets. They are both too old. While they might not be very exciting, a car from one of the big Asian brands, such as Mazda or Toyota, would be a much better choice for someone with a limited budget.

If it's surface rust it should be acceptable to clean it off and apply a protective coating, and that's what I suspect it is. If it were structural rust that's a different matter, but it's unusual for suspension components to be affected this way. It would seem on the surface that the mechanic is being over zealous. Find an engineer acceptable to Queensland Transport to assess the rust for you and go from there.
