The Jaguar XE four-door medium sized sedan serves as the entry-point into the Indian-owned, British-built brand in Australia, with prices starting at just over $60,000.
It's based on the same underpinnings as the larger XF sedan, and also represents one of the first completely 'non-Ford' Jags after the brand separated from the American company in the noughties. Released in 2015, the XE retains a classic longitudinal engine/rear-wheel drive format, and is offered with three engines. Prices range from $74,030 to $85,140. Variants include the XE 300 Sport (221KW), a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder, a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel as well as a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 which tops out at the XE 300 Sport (221KW).
Jaguar began the switch from the EcoBoost engine to the Ingenium unit in its cars late in 2015. In the XE model, however, that change didn’t occur until late 2017, so a car with a build date after that should have the newer unit. The problem is that a car sold in 2018 (by the time it arrived in Australia) could easily have been built sometime in 2017 and, therefore, could carry either engine. For the definitive answer on what engine a particular car has, the best idea is to check the car’s VIN with Jaguar Australia or a Jaguar dealership.

The XE is a classy car and, after a preview drive in Europe, I think it will work for you as a downsizing choice. Writers rate Jaguar below the Germans because of the make's history and quality, as well as personal experiences of problems.

The Jaguar XE's interior is refined with the latest driver information and multimedia displays subtly integrated into a simple and precise dashboard layout. As shown in our road test review images, piano black surfaces along the centre console and around the ventilation controls and media screen combine with etched alloy highlights and high-quality leather trim to create a superior feel.
