The current-generation Fiat 500 is now 11 years old. That’s a long time, yet it still sells in respectable numbers thanks to Fiat seemingly constantly keeping the car in the headlines with an endless churn of 'special editions'.
For some context, the Fiat 500 - despite its age - is currently the number-one selling car in Lithuania, and the 20th-best-selling car in Europe at the midway point of 2018.
There’s not even an end in sight for the retro-inspired microcar, with Fiat releasing at least three new special editions in the past year alone. So, after almost a dozen years of this, how many ‘special edition’ Fiat 500s are there? Too many.
By our count, there are no less than 30, and that’s not even taking into consideration the spicy Abarth variants or the 500L or 500X body-types. Of course, if you happen to have heard of yet another special edition, let us know in the comments so we can add it to our list.
500 Start & Stop

A feature pack to celebrate start/stop technology being added to the 500 range. How this is even an 'edition' is beyond us.
500 PUR-O2

The Pur-O2 was a special edition equipped with the aforementioned start/stop system, a Dualogic gearbox and the smaller 1.2-litre engine that combined to lower CO2 emissions from the 500 to less than 115 g/km.
500 by Diesel

Coming in a slew of deep coloured paints, it was also adorned with studded alloys and side-skirts. Because... fashion, I guess? No, it's not diesel-powered.
500 Aria

A concept 500 from 2008 that previewed a 1.3-litre diesel engine with a DPF (diesel particulate filter) intended to be 'environmentally friendly' or something.
500 for Ferrari

An ultra-limited run, the 500 for Ferrari had the original, greatest standard 500 engine and a better exhaust.
500 Barbie

The paint is 'varnish' because of course it is. Also, the interior was literally bejeweled with diamontes everywhere. Horrific.
500 Pink

Kind of a wider production version of the Barbie edition, there were two shades of pink for the 500 hatch and 500C convertible, respectively.
500 BlackJack

Also known as the 'Rock Star' locally, it's just a 500 with black trim bits, red brake calipers and bespoke matt-black alloys.
500 by Gucci

Of course this car exists. The fashion brand and everything Italian seem to go hand-in-hand, whether you like it or not. Made on demand with bespoke alloys and a paint job featuring Gucci red and green stripes (a real collectors item for South Sydney Rabbitohs fans).
500 First Edition

To celebrate the launch of the 500 in China, Fiat released this 'First Eedition' model with cute pandas and stuff liveried onto it.
500 America

Also known as the 'Nation Edition', this 500 is simply finished in a supposedly patriotic blue with stars and stripes wing mirrors.
500 Street

Apparently different from the 'BlackJack' edition a few years prior, this one seems to recycle the blacked-out aesthetic, but was available in new shades of red, white, grey and matte black.
500 Pink Ribbon

A US-market edition only, Fiat donated US$1000 to cancer research for every Pink Ribbon edition sold. Props.
500 Colour Therapy

Does what it says on the tin. Basically limited edition pastel colours. We like the bespoke wheels, though.
500 GQ

Just a pointless bespoke trim level to go with a pointless GQ magazine marketing deal.
500 Cult

Only available in pale mint, it was a sendoff for the 2014 model year (anything counts as a reason for a 'special edition' over at Fiat I guess...)
500 La Petite Robe Noire by Gurlain

A tie-in special edition for a chain of French perfumes complete with branding down the side... Not sure what else to say.
500e

The 500e is the first all-electric 500. By all accounts it's pretty average though, and only offers around 130km of range on a single charge. Could be considered a special edition because no-one bought them.
500 Cattiva

Meant to be kind of a bad-ass edition, the paint really sets this one apart. We like.
500 Riviera Maison

A special edition for the Netherlands made as a tie-in with the local Riviera Maison interior design chain in 2015. Based on a 500 Lounge, examples could be seen at flagship stores throughout the country. It was only served in white with a quaint comic strip livery.
500 Tricolore

Pointless edition that just has italian flag decals around the place. Why? FUN FACT: The Fiat 500 is actually built in Poland!
500 Vintage 57

The first car to receive our favourite Fiat 500 alloy wheels ever, the '57 celebrates the first ever Fiat 500s.
500 Ron Arad

A famous designer puts a decal of an original 500 on the side of a new 500. Art. You did get a model car with your purchase, though, so that's cool.
500 Riva

Nice wheels and paint job join forces for a tie-in with Italian-as-ever yacht builder Riva. Pointless, but really nice detailing.
500 Mirror

A bespoke line of colours apparently to celebrate the 500 now having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto... hence the 'Mirror' because screen mirroring... Why?
500 Urbana

Another US-market limited edition in the vein of the 'Street' that came before it, with some bespoke, edgy colours and unique black-finish alloys.
500 S Linea Rossa

A seemingly pointless edition of the 'S' arrived locally in some slightly different colours. Why? And, to translate, "Linea Rossa" means "Red Line".
500 Collezione

You're going to love this one. This, no joke, is a special edition to celebrate a decade of special editions.
Update 13/10/2018: In 2018 the Collezione became a seasonal special edition. One for every season. Seriously.
500 60th
.jpg)
60 years of Fiat 500. Classic creme paints and interior trim are a bit of a let-down for a big birthday. Maybe Fiat's creative juices are running low.
500 Anniversario

Okay guys, stop now, we get it, there's already been two editions celebrating anniversaries of the 500. We didn't need another one... (still, those wheels...).
500 Spiaggina
.jpg)
The latest at the time of publishing (I don't doubt I'll add another 10 to this list at some point in the future), the 500 Spiaggina is also kind of funny because it celebrates the first ever Fiat 500 special edition, the 'Spiaggina', also known as the Jolly. For safety reasons, it's not as roofless as the original.
