T-Roc bottom! 2023 VW T-Roc CityLife is the new cut-price small SUV aiming to steal sales away from Hyundai Kona and Mazda CX-30

Volkswagen Australia has a new entry-level T-Roc in town, dubbed the CityLife special edition, that bundles several unique features into the small SUV priced from $35,990 before on-road costs.

This makes the CityLife the most affordable T-Roc in the range, undercutting the $37,100 Style and $45,200 R-Line, as well as the performance-focused R Grid Edition and full-fat R grades.

Starting with the Style as a base, the CityLife swaps out 18-inch wheels for 17-inch alloys, ‘Sports’ cloth seats for ‘Comfort’ pews and ‘Performance’ LED headlights for reflector-style units to bring the price down.

The CityLife also sports a blacked-out front grille and roof rails instead of chrome, as well as body-coloured door mirrors and roof to further differentiate itself from the T-Roc Style.

Finally, the most affordable T-Roc loses out on a driving profile selector and rear privacy glass compared with its pricier siblings, but features a unique headliner and dashboard inlays inside the cabin.

The CityLife still scores the Style’s 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, which drives the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

An advanced array of safety features also comes as standard, including front and rear parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking, a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

The T-Roc CityLife special edition is priced from $35,990 before on-road costs.

Inside, buyers will find a push-button start, dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a wireless smartphone charger and an 8.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with digital radio.
