Audi S3

Audi S3

FROM
$75,400

The Audi S3 is a premium small sports car that originally arrived in Australia as in 1999.

Initially offered as a small hot-hatch with 152kW, today's model boasts more than 210kW and features a wide variant range, rising from the base $75,400 S3 2.0 TFSI Quattro and capping off at the top-of-the-range $81,800 S3 Quattro.

The punchy 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic are the only drivetrain offerings. All variants come with Audi’s 'Quattro' all-wheel drive system.

The Audi S3’s class rivals include the Mercedes-AMG A45, BMW M140i, and Volkswagen Golf R.

If after a more potent version of the S3, you can always find Audi’s more aggressive RS3 model.

Audi S3 Speed

The S3 will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds.

Audi S3 Interior

No lack of room in the S3 and the hatchback version has a wide hatch opening to make loading easier. The sedan, however, is a full 150mm longer than the hatch and that extra is all behind the rear seat. The S3's interior design is classic modern-era Audi where the game is to make a complex layout look as simple as possible. The face-level air vents also seem to have borrowed a little Lamborghini (part of the Audi family) DNA.

Shown above are interior details for the Audi S3 2022.

Audi S3 Accessories

The S3 runs to S-specific trim and presentation (instrument display, steering wheel) standard heated, powered, four-way lumbar-adjustable sports seats, a black headliner and the 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo that’s a $1500 option on some variants of the A3.

The interior is also home to a 10.1-inch info screen, dual-zone climate-control, an auto-dimming mirror, keyless entry and push-button start, wireless phone charging, rain-sensing wipers, park-assistance and acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Connectivity runs to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and sat-nav.

Helping the image match the performance, the S3 also gets dark aluminium accents, alloy pedals, ambient lighting and gloss-red brake calipers.

Audi S3 FAQs

What recommendations are there for setting a price when selling our 2016 Audi S3 privately?

If you look on the major online selling sites (including this one) you’ll find that there are plenty of cars like yours for sale. Prices seem to start around the low to mid-$30,000s with lots of choice in the mid-30s to low-40s range. Prices appear to top out (generally) around the low to mid-50s.

Audi buyers tend to be pretty switched on, so a full service history will make your car more desirable. But prices also vary according to whether the car is a sedan, hatchback or convertible and what options are fitted. Even the colour of a car like this can have a big effect on the asking price.

The best advice is to tap into some of these sites and find an exact match for your car and see what the seller is asking. Don’t forget that dealers will be asking more than private sellers and that what is being asked in the advert is not always what is being paid in reality.

Audi S3 - refund wanted?

You have been treated appallingly. To have had your car for 15 weeks in the eight months you have owned it since new and not fixed it is an absolute disgrace, and should be a warning to anyone thinking about buying an Audi. The dealer is clearly out of his depth and needs head office help, which doesn’t appear to be coming. You’ve also highlighted the problem with Australia’s consumer laws: they are so weak to be useless. If there were ever a case for a refund or a new car then yours is it. You should have had your money refunded a long time ago, or Audi should have offered you a replacement car. That neither has happened says the company cares little for its customers. That they’re arguing over who is at fault is not your problem, you simply want your car fixed. I understand your concern about taking legal action, but I would urge you have a solicitor write to Audi, with a copy to the dealer, setting out your experience and asking for the company’s help to resolve it.

S3 or WRX?

The WRX is a hottie and great fun, but the S3 is a much classier car. That’s in things like the materials and the way it feels on the road. It gets The Tick from me and I think it’s worth the extra cash.
