With a turbocharged twin-cam six-cylinder, yes the BMW 335i is a great car! The key is to drive the car with an amount of mechanical sympathy, and get it serviced on the dot so it stays a picture of reliability. These are complex luxury cars so don't go in thinking you'll never spend a dollar on it, but they're well-made fast and fun cars.

There is a cooling-off period in Victoria. You have three clear business days from the time you sign the contract of sale to change your mind, but you automatically lose that right if you accept delivery of the car within that period. By taking it home your wife forfeited the right to the cooling-off period.

The response of carmakers amazes me at times. VW's current problem with its diesels is enough to tell you that some carmakers don't care about their customers once they've bought their cars and taken them home. It seems they then don't exist. BMW's response to you smacks of this attitude; I'd call it arrogance. It's not acceptable, as you say. Take the car back to the dealer and park it in their driveway and tell them to put up with it, or justify to your satisfaction that it is something inherent in all their cars. It sounds to me like it could be a bush problem, or a shock absorber issue. Whatever the cause it should be fixed.
