2021 Genesis GV70 pricing and specs detailed: New Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Lexus NX and Porsche Macan rival goes all out

The GV70 slots in below the GV80 in Genesis Australia’s growing SUV range.

Genesis Australia has confirmed pricing and full specification details for the first-generation GV70 mid-size SUV ahead of its launch in July.

The GV70 is available in four variants: entry-level 2.5T RWD ($66,400 plus on-road costs), mid-range 2.5T AWD ($68,800) and 2.2D AWD ($71,800), and flagship 3.5T AWD Sport ($83,400).

As their names suggest, the 2.5T RWD and 2.5T AWD are motivated by the same 224kW/422Nm 2.5-litre single-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, with the former coming with rear-wheel drive, while the latter gets all-wheel-drive.

And both the 2.2D AWD and 3.5T AWD Sport have all-wheel drive, with the former using a 154kW/440Nm 2.2-litre single-turbo four-cylinder diesel unit, while the latter is powered by a 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with an electro-mechanical limited-slip differential.

Either way, an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission is standard.

Range-wide standard equipment includes keyless entry, puddle lights, a hands-free power-operated tailgate, push-button-start, a panoramic sunroof, fingerprint authentication, a 14.5-inch touchscreen multimedia system, augmented reality (AR) satellite navigation with live traffic, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, digital radio, a nine-speaker sound system, wireless smartphone charging, a power-adjustable steering wheel, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heating and cooling, dual-zone climate control, rear sunshades, leather-appointed upholstery and ambient lighting.

Advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with intersection assist and pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep and steering assist (including emergency), adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, traffic sign recognition, high-beam assist, driver attention warning, active blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, Safe Exit Assist, rear occupant alert and surround-view cameras.

Eight airbags are on hand, including a centre item between the driver and front passenger, which is intended to prevent head clashes during side impacts.

Standard in the 3.5T AWD Sport but optional in the other three variants is the $4500 Sport Line package, which bundles in a Sport+ drive mode, a sports body kit (bumpers, gloss-black grille insert, front skid plate and roof rails; and dark-chrome trim), unique 19-inch alloy wheels, sports brakes, large dual exhaust tailpipes, a sports steering wheel, front sports seats, Nappa leather- and suede-appointed upholstery, a suede headliner, alloy pedals and aluminium interior trim.

An option for all four variants is the Luxury package, which consists of Matrix LED headlights, rear privacy glass, a 1050W Harman Kardon sound system with 16 speakers, a 3D 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, an 18-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with massaging functionality, heated outboard rear seats, three-zone climate control, 3D-effect backlit interior trim, rear AEB, driver monitoring and remote park assist. It costs $11,000 for all variants but the 3.5T AWD Sport, which charges $6600.

If the Sport Line package is also fitted, the Luxury package costs $2500 less and substitutes in 21-inch alloy wheels as well as quilted Nappa leather-appointed upholstery, with the latter otherwise coming with it.

Either way, the 3.5T AWD Sport stands out from the GV70 crowd with adaptive suspension.

Like other Genesis Australia models, the GV70 gets a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, including 24/7 roadside assistance.

The new Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Lexus NX and Porsche Macan rival also gets five years/50,000km (petrol) or 75,000km (diesel) of free servicing, including a valet service.

For reference, the GV70 measures 4715mm long (with a 2875mm wheelbase), 1910mm wide and 1630mm tall, with its boot having a cargo capacity of 542L, although that can be increased to 1678L with 60/40 split-fold rear bench stowed.

Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum. That said, despite loving cars and writing, Justin chose to pursue career paths that didn’t lend themselves to automotive journalism, before eventually ending up working as a computer technician. But that car itch just couldn’t be scratched by his chipped Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7), so he finally decided to give into the inevitable and study a Master of Journalism at the same time. And even with the long odds, Justin was lucky enough to land a full-time job as a motoring journalist soon after graduating and the rest, as they say, is history. These days, Justin happily finds himself working at CarsGuide during the biggest period of change yet for the automotive industry, which is perhaps the most exciting part of all. In case you’re wondering, Justin begrudgingly sold the Golf R (sans chip) and still has plans to buy his dream car, an E46 BMW M3 coupe (manual, of course), but he is in desperate need of a second car space – or maybe a third.
