Genesis is the luxury wing of Hyundai in the same way Lexus is the prestige division of Toyota and the Genesis GV70 is the brand’s mid-sized SUV.

The Genesis GV70’s interior is downright plush. The dashboard is headlined by a massive 14.5-inch multimedia touchscreen that is also operated by a rotary dial that has crystal-looking embellishments. The 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument panel appears like a hologram without the image instability. It has built-in satellite navigation. There is customisable ambient lighting and backlit panel inserts in the door frames that show an etched mountain-scape.

The GV70’s boot isn’t as large as it could be with that sloping roof but it still has 503L (VDA) of capacity when all seats are in use. Pop the back row down and that jumps up to a healthy 1678L (VDA) but that only helps with gear and not people stowage. There’s a tiny ‘frunk’ storage but you’ll only use it for the odd charging cable.
Standard equipment in the GV70: 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 14.5-inch touchscreen multimedia system, 12.0-inch head-up display, satellite navigation, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, digital radio, front and rear reading lights, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dusk-sensing LED lights, three-zone air conditioning, tyre puncture repair kit, six front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth connectivity, a cargo barrier, USB-A ports, 12-volt ports, 240-volt port, keyless entry and push button start and 360-degree view reversing camera.
The electrified GV70 is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous motors; one on each axle. They each produce 160kW/350Nm in ‘normal’ operation, their combined output quoted as 320kW/605Nm. But press the steering-wheel mounted ‘Boost’ button and those numbers tick up to 360kW/700Nm for a 10-second burst of extra performance.
The GV70 comes with five seats upholstered in Nappa leather. The front seats are electrically adjustable 18-ways and have heat and ventilation functions.
