Haval’s new-generation H6 mid-size SUV has arrived in local showrooms with three grades, priced from $30,990 driveaway for the entry-level Premium FWD variant.
The mid-tier Lux FWD costs $33,990, while flagship Ultra is offered in FWD ($36,990) and AWD ($38,990) forms, with the H6 taking aim at the MG HS, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda CR-V and Nissan X-Trail in the hotly contested Mid-size SUV segment.
Justifying – at least in part – the $1000 base price rise is a more powerful 150kW/320Nm (+5kW/5Nm) 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) features one more ratio than the outgoing model.
As their names suggest, the three cheapest variants send drive to the front wheels, while the top-spec Ultra also has all-wheel drive.
Measuring 4653mm long, 1886mm wide, 1724mm tall and with a 2738mm wheelbase, the H6 has grown in every dimension, which bodes well for occupant space and boot volume, though exact details are still to be revealed.

Standard equipment in the Premium FWD includes 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and tail-lights, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen multimedia system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality.
For safety, all H6 variantss are fitted with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver fatigue alert, traffic sign recognition, a reversing camera with rear parking sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring.
Seven airbags are also littered throughtout the cabin, including a side-centre airbag that is crucical to a five-star ANCAP safety rating in 2021.
Stepping up to the Lux FWD adds roof rails, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, heated front seats, an electronically adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker sound system, adaptive cruise control and surround-view cameras.

The Ultra FWD and AWD, meanwhile, score 19-inch wheels, a power-operated tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system, a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charger, an electronically adjustable front passenger seat, cooled front seats, rear cross-traffic alert and park assist.
As a comparison, the H6 starts $1000 higher than its MG HS compatriot, which kicks off with the Core FWD variant for $29,990.
The H6 is more potent, however, with the base HS powered by a 119kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a seven-speed DCT.
Standard equipment in the base H6 also outclasses the MG HS Core, with the latter fitted with 17-inch wheels, a 10.1-inch multimedia system and halogen headlights, though both are comparable when it comes to safety tech.
