Zeekr has cut up to $7000 off the price of its X small electric SUV as it fights off competition from fellow Chinese brands and other rivals such as Tesla and Volkswagen.

The entry grade single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) X now starts at $49,990 before on-road costs, down from $56,900, while the top-of-the-range dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) which was $64,900 now lists for $62,900.

The X faces stiff competition from the likes of Chinese brands such as Geely with its EX5, which starts at $40,990, and the XPeng G6 SUV which starts at $54,800.

The price cut to Zeekr’s X will also see it come in at $10,000 less than the mechanically related Volvo EX30 Extended Range Plus.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s Model Y, which is a size larger, has a starting price of $63,400.

Zeekr Australia’s General Manager William Zhou says the price drop will make the X more accessible to more people.

“This price adjustment is part of Zeek’s ongoing commitment to making cutting-edge electric vehicles accessible to a broader range of consumers, while preparing for the launch of future models that will bring even more advanced features and technology to market,” he said.

“This repositioning reflects our strategy to align with market trends and to ensure that Zeekr remains at the forefront of the electric revolution. As we look to the future, this move sets the stage for the introduction of new, innovative models that will further elevate the Zeekr driving experience.”

The Zeekr X’s standard features list remains the same.

Coming standard on the entry grade RWD X is two-tone body colour with a black roof, a panoramic glass roof, a six-way power driver seat, an 8.8-inch instrument cluster and 14.6-inch media screen, there's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-speaker audio system, climate control and wireless charging

The AWD X has all of the RWD’s features and adds 20-inch alloy wheels, a 24.3-inch head-up display, an intelligent B pillar that provides information on charging, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 13-speaker Yamaha stereo and LED ambient lighting.

A convenience package is offered on the entry grade X for $4000 and brings many of the top-of-the-range variant's features.

A single electric motor powers the RWD variant and makes 200kW and 343Nm, while two motors power the AWD and produce a combined 315kW and 543Nm.
