GWM Tank 300 Frontier Edition paired with an electric dirtbike is the ultimate go-anywhere combo

The bright yellow paint scheme is a GWM Tank feature for the Frontier that Buxus carried over to the EVA.

The GWM Tank 300 has been paired up with a smaller two-wheeled counterpart thanks to Chinese electric bike company Buxus.

Specifically designed for the GWM Tank 300 Frontier Edition, which was revealed earlier this year for China, the addition from Buxus comes in the form of a lightweight electric off-road bike called the Buxus Eva, and a modification to the Tank 300 to allow the Eva to be mounted to the tailgate.

The Tank 300 Frontier, which is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, is intended to be an adventurous variant of the Jeep Wrangler-rivalling Chinese SUV, so it makes sense for a company like Buxus to add a little more adventure into the mix.

The Buxus Eva e-bike is powered by a relatively small battery, but its lightweight body weighs just 45kg without the battery installed, which means even with just a 20Ah battery, Buxus claims the Eva can travel up to 100km on a single charge.

The Eva keeps it simple by using the rider’s phone as an instrument panel, and a relatively light hub motor producing just 750W (0.75kW) for power.

Visually, it’s matched up with the yellow of the Tank 300 Frontier edition, which itself has modifications like wheel arches, a roof rack, a raised chassis, a snorkel, and protective bars around its bodywork.

The Tank 300, which will come to Australia in 2023 to take on the likes of the Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Prado and Ford Everest, could see sales success if GWM manages to replicate the efforts it has put into the Haval Jolion and H6.

It’s not clear if a tough off-roading variant like the Frontier Edition will be part of the Australian offering for the Tank 300.

GWM Australia head of marketing Steve Maciver told CarsGuide in September the Tank brand arriving in Australia won’t overcomplicate the company’s local lineup.

“Tank is very, very different to Haval SUV. And the Tank is a very, very capable luxury or professional off-road brand, whereas Haval SUV is perhaps more your mainstream family SUV, for want of a better term.

“We know that Ute has its place, and then Ora as a dedicated EV brand is something different again. So, we think we can manage it.”
