LDV is doubling its ute line-up.

The Chinese brand’s new Terron 9 dual-cab workhorse will arrive in showrooms in July, where it will sit alongside the brand’s existing T60 ute.

Prices for the entry-level Terron 9 Origin starting at $50,990, drive-away for ABN holders, or $53,674 drive-away for private buyers.

This jumps to $55,990 (ABN) or $58,937 (private) for the fully-loaded Evolve.

That’s cheaper than a base Toyota HiLux Workmate dual-cab, but $12,000 more than the cheapest T60 with an auto transmission, which the brand said will help broaden its offering.

We want to make sure when a ute buyer walks into an LDV showroom, we have a vehicle that offers value across a range of price points,” said the General Manager of LDV Australia, Dinesh Chinnappa.

“Workhorse no longer means compromise. With the new-generation LDV Terron 9 we are bringing new levels of space and comfort to the ute segment.”

The Terron 9 is a bigger beast than the T60; longer, taller and wider than its more affordable stable mate.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which makes 163kW and 520Nm, and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

That amount of grunt puts it ahead of popular utes such as the Toyota HiLux (150kW/500Nm) and the Isuzu D-Max (140kW and 450Nm).

This enables it to tow up to 3500kg with a payload of 1005kg or 1100kg depending on specification.

LDV claims it drinks 7.9 litres per 100km, which is about average for a dual-cab ute.

There is a handy amount of standard equipment included.

The Origin version has 18-inch alloy-wheels, LED headlights, roof rails, side steps, a spray-in bedliner, locking rear differential and a towbar and wiring harness.

Inside there are two 12.3-inch displays, one for multimedia and the other for the driver. This is paired with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB charging ports, cloth seats and power adjustable front seats.

Step up to the Terron 9 Evolve and you can expect 20-inch alloy-wheels, cargo bed rails and lights, auto folding mirrors, a front locking differential and trailer back-up assistance.

Inside it adds an eight-speaker JBL stereo, heated and ventilated front seats that also have a massage function, heated rear seats and ambient lighting.

The Terron 9 is covered by a seven-year/200,000km warranty and service intervals are 15,000km or 12 months, except for the first which is 10,000km or 12 months.

An all-electric version, called the eTerron 9, is expected to join the line-up at a later date.
