Hot hatch summer! 2024 Hyundai i20 N and i30 N orders reopen

The Hyundai i20 N and i30 N hatchbacks are finally available to customers again.

Hyundai Australia has reopened order books for N versions of its i20 and i30 hot hatches after overwhelming demand forced a year-plus stop sale on both models.

However, the South Korean brand says supply has caught finally caught up, and customers will be able to place a deposit for the performance pair from today.

“Our existing order bank has been gradually reduced over the past year, to where we now have sufficient production supply to fulfill existing backorders,” Hyundai Australia PR and CSR Senior Manager Guido Schenken said.

However, this doesn’t mean there are brand-new examples of Hyundai hot hatches ready to go for customers, as orders will still take around six months to be delivery.

Hyundai notes the transit times from Turkey (where the i20 N is built) and the Czech Republic (where the i30 N is produced) is around three or four months after a car has been built.

As a reminder, the i20 N is priced at $34,990 before on-road costs and is equipped with a 150kW/275Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine.

Driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, the baby N can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds.

The i30 N meanwhile, kicks off from $46,200 for the six-speed manual, with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic adding $3000 to the price.

Powering the i30 N is a 206kW/392Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, which enables a 0-100km/h sprint in 5.9s and 5.4s for the manual and automatic respectively.

Of note, the i20 N is only one of three performance light hatchbacks currently offered in Australia after Ford discontinued the Fiesta ST and the Toyota GR Yaris remains unavailable, with the others being the Suzuki Swift Sport and VW Polo GTI.

The i30 N, however, competes with the 202kW/350Nm Subaru WRX (from $45,990) and 180kW/370Nm VW Golf GTI ($55,490) in performance, as well as the 221kW/370Nm Toyota GR Corolla GTS ($64,190) and 235kW/420Nm Honda Civic Type R ($72,500 drive-away) in size.

It is also expected revised versions of both the i20 N and i30 N will surface next year, though details are yet to be confirmed.
