Hyundai has issued a recall notice for SUVs due to a fire risk.
More than 8700 ix35 mid-size SUVs built between 2012 and 2013 are affected. The notice issued by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts said a manufacturing defect could lead to a fire while the car was driving or parked.
The brake fluid may leak into the ABS control module, said the recall notice. This could cause an electrical short circuit that could lead to an engine fire.
If this happens it would increase the risk of accidents causing serious injury or death to the vehicle road user or bystander.
The notice also said it would increase the risk to property.
Hyundai has urged owners to park their affected vehicle in the open away from flammable structures such as a garage in case the vehicle fire happens while the SUV is parked.

Affected owners can contact their nearest Hyundai dealership to have a repair carried out free of charge.
The brand also warned drivers to stop driving their car immediately if an engine warning light appeared in the driver’s instruments.
The Hyundai ix35 was the name given to the second-generation Hyundai Tucson built between 2009 and 2015. The company reverted back to the Tucson name from the third-generation onwards.
