BYD has revealed the first official images of its 2025 Seal 06 GT.
Although the name is familiar, this fully-electric hatch is expected to come in hotted-up guise to challenge the likes of the Cupra Born and MG4 Xpower.
The exterior and interior design of the Seal 06 GT mirror that of the Ocean M Concept which was revealed back in April at the Beijing Motor Show, albeit in a more sensible fashion.
It loses the rear wing, the aggressive front splitter and bumper, although it retains the telephone dial-style wheels that remind us of Alfa Romeo items.
The Seal 06 GT shares the same interior design as the Seal saloon, with a large multimedia touch screen acting as the vehicle’s centrepiece. Buttons are essentially non-existent, except for a few on the centre console, with the centre display carrying out most functions such as climate control, media and navigation.
Utilising the same e-Platform 3.0 architecture as the Seal sedan and smaller Dolphin hatchback, the Seal 06 GT will be positioned somewhere in between.

BYD will reveal technical details of the model on August 30, although it is likely that it will bring the 800V fast-charging architecture to match the recently updated (in China, not yet Australia) Seal sedan, though expect a slight decrease in range from the Seal’s current 570 km WLTP rating.
If the Seal 06 GT follows the Seal’s lead, it will be offered in 160kW single-motor and 310kW dual-motor powertrains, giving customers the option of a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive variant.

With the previous Ocean M concept's sporty exterior addenda, it's possible BYD will make its first foray into a true performance model, with more focused suspension, clever differentials and a rear spoiler.
Current Australian pricing for the Dolphin is $36,890 (before on-road costs), while the Seal sedan starts at $49,888 (before on-road costs), so expect the Seal 06 GT to start somewhere upwards of the $40,000 mark.
The Seal 06 GT hatch is not confirmed for an Australian release, however it is bound for exports market including Europe and potentially the United Kingdom.
