Toyota Fortuner 2020 pricing and spec confirmed: Slight price rise for boosted safety equipment

Toyota has lifted the standard safety equipment on its new model year 2020 Fortuner large SUV, but also raised pricing to match.

Now kicking off at $45,965 before on-road costs for the base GX variant, the point of entry to the Fortuner line-up is $1375 pricier than before.

The mid-tier GLX moves up $890 to $50,790, while the flagship Crusade creeps up $1300 to $58,290.

However, all Fortuner grades are now equipped with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and traffic-sign recognition as standard.

The base GX grade also adopts the 4.2-inch colour driver display as found on the GXL and Crusade to justify its higher price increase.

All Fortuners are powered by a 130kW/450Nm 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which sends drive to all four wheels exclusively via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel economy is pegged at 8.6 litres per 100km for the HiLux-based seven-seat SUV.

Carryover standard equipment includes air-conditioning, cloth interior, LED tail-lights and 17-inch wheels.

Stepping up to the GXL adds keyless entry, push-button start, roof rails and downhill assist, while the top-spec Crusade gains 18-inch wheels, leather-accented interior, powered tailgate and electronically adjustable driver’s seat.

Like every new Toyota, the Fortuner comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

With the update to the Fortuner, 89.5 per cent of Toyota Australia’s vehicles now come with advanced safety technologies, according to the brand.
