Behold, Australia’s most expensive Toyota!
The Japanese carmaker has added a new flagship grade to its recently launched Tundra full-size pick-up range.
Toyota says the Platinum completes the Tundra line-up in Australia and it will sit alongside the Tundra Limited in local dealerships.
Priced from $172,990 before on-road costs, the Platinum is $17,000 dearer than the Limited which starts from $155,990.
It also means the Tundra Platinum takes the Limited’s title as Australia’s priciest Toyota model.
The next priciest Toyota is the top-spec LandCruiser 300 Sahara ZX at $145,791.
But how does it compare to its 4x4 pick-up rivals for price?

The newly launched six-cylinder Ram 1500 Limited is $159,950 before on roads, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 is $138,000 and the Ford F-150 Lariat LWB is $140,945.
Visual differences over the Limited include chrome-plated mesh front grille, chrome side door trim, black 20-inch alloy wheels, black tailgate handles and window surrounds.
Inside, the Tundra Platinum gains black/blue leather-accented seats with 10-way power adjustment for the front passenger seat, a massaging function for both front seats, rear outboard heated and ventilated seats, and a heated steering wheel.

It also comes with a panoramic sunroof, chrome door handles, interior ambient lighting and Platinum badging on the instrument panel.
Tech features include a 10.9-inch colour head-up display, while both grades come with a 14-inch multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a 12-speaker JBL audio system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Under the bonnet is Toyota’s 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 ‘i-Force Max’ petrol-electric parallel hybrid powertrain producing a combined output of 326kW/790Nm, and paired with a 10-speed auto.

The Tundra can still tow up to 4500kg and has two selectable tow modes.
