Mitsubishi unveiled a new large SUV concept last week but, much to many people’s dismay, it’s a Toyota Kluger rival instead of a tough off-road beast.
There are many who were hoping we might get a glimpse at the next-gen Triton ute-based Pajero Sport, or perhaps even the full-fat Pajero. But it wasn’t to be.
The Pajero Sport is still anticipated for release by 2026, though we reckon Mitsubishi would be silly to miss out on the opportunity to roll out an off-road brawler to tackle the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series and upcoming Y63 Nissan Patrol, like a new Pajero.
We already imagined a possible look earlier in the year and now we’ve gone back and made it tougher. This is CarsGuide’s jacked-up version 2027 Pajero Ralliart brought to life by digital artist Thanos Pappas.
In ethos, it isn’t too similar to our Triton Ralliart imagination, with the Pajero Ralliart you see gaining a 50mm lift, front underbody protection, beefier side arches, a Ralliart emblem in the grille and an A-pillar mounted ‘snorkel’ air intake.
Mitsubishi would be unlikely to stop with the exterior, so expect heavier duty springs paired with trick dampers and probably extra power. There’s no details on the new Pajero’s engine yet but reports from Japan point to a plug-in hybrid, probably a version of that found in the Outlander SUV.
Expect more than 185kW, potentially pushing towards 300kW, with a rumoured triple electric motor set-up.

This imagined car wouldn’t be the first hotted up Pajero, either, with Mitsubishi producing a limited run of amazingly cool Pajero Evolution three-doors between 1997-1999.
It may never come to fruition but that would be a shame, with Mitsubishi having talked a big game about reviving Ralliart since 2023. In Australia at least, we’re yet to see any developments, though the last-gen Triton got a Ralliart sticker pack and body kit in Thailand.
Mitsubishi’s athletic Ralliart arm is campaigning a new-gen Triton in this year’s Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) series that looks tough.
Though nothing is confirmed about a new Pajero or expected Ralliart version, we know the DST isn’t where Mitsubishi Stops. There’s something bigger, better and tougher coming.

Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shaun Westcott has previously promised CarsGuide a “halo” model is coming for Mitsubishi.
“I cannot tell you what it is, what it looks like, what the powertrain is, whether there’s a ladder frame, whether there’s monocoque. I cannot give you any of that information other than to say that Mitsubishi has announced that we are working on a large SUV,” he said.
"I have put up my hand and said we would love to have one because it's a very valuable nameplate, because it is a fantastic product, because it's a halo product,” added Westcott.
It remains to be seen if and when Mitsubishi will follow through with a potential Pajero Replacement. Stay tuned for more.
