The $71,900 BMW 230i Convertible is the mid-spec car in the drop-top 2 Series line-up which starts at $58,300 for the base 220i and tops out at $83,900 for the M240i.
The 230i gains much of the standard equipment in the 220i and adds a larger 8.8-inch screen with the top-spec Professional sat nav, proximity unlocking and Driving Assistant. The 230i also adds the M Sport package which apart from a tough looking body kit and 18-inch M light alloy wheels and sports suspension and brakes which increase the dynamic abilities of the car.
The 230i has the new-generation 185kW/350Nm four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which is the same unit as what’s you’ll find in the 220i but with 20kW and 80Nm more torque – that’s noticeably more oomph. Changing gears for you is an excellent eight-speed automatic which barks beautifully on the up shifts. Performance is impressive with a 0-100km/h time of 5.9s. The combined average fuel consumption is 6.2L/100km.
The roof is fabric and folds automatically even at speeds of up to 50km/h.
