Despite having been initially launched in 1974, the Lamborghini Countach became one of a couple of ‘poster cars’ of the 1980s along with the likes of the Ferrari F40 and the Porsche 911 Turbo.
Breaking from the tradition of Lamborghinis being named for bulls (like the Miura which preceded it), the word Countach is a Piedmontese exclamation that according to designer Marcello Gandini means plague or contagion.
From the original LP400 through to the wicked-looking (and most iconic) bewinged LP5000 QV, the Countach was powered by a mid-mounted V12 driving the rear wheels right up until its final model year in 1990. Around 2000 examples of the Countach were built, a little more or less depending on the source, though the most common of the variants was the 5000 QV, with around 610 built.
151 examples of the Lamborghini Countach were built.
