2025 Nissan Y63 Patrol 4WD and next-gen Nissan Navara ute partially revealed as Nissan outlines mid-term plans for expansion of electric car models

The screen grabs from Nissan’s promotional video show darkened vision of the next Patrol and Navara.

Nissan has teased its next-generation Patrol 4WD and the Navara ute in a promotional video outlining its plans to roll out 30 new models by the 2026 Japanese fiscal year.

The Japanese giant announced its Arc medium-term business plan overnight, which will see it increase sales by one million units, streamline manufacturing processes, expand its line-up with a focus on electrification and partner with other companies on tech where needed.

But the big take out was confirmation that the Oceania region - of which Australia is a part of - will see the launch of a one-tonne pick-up and a C-segment crossover EV.

The company added that "additional new electric vehicles" would be released in Oceania, without detailing how many.

While the crossover EV could be the already confirmed replacement for the long-running Leaf, an EV that will be built in the UK, it could also be the delayed Ariya medium electric SUV, or another new model.

The one-tonne pick-up is, of course, the replacement for the ageing Navara. Nissan says in the release that in the Oceania region, it will launch "four new models, including a new 1-tonne pickup, leveraging Nissan’s partnership with Mitsubishi Motors".

Precise timing has not been confirmed, but the Navara should be in Australia well before the April 2026 date mentioned by Nissan.

The Navara should share much of its mechanicals with the recently launched Mitsubishi Triton, and given that model has just gone on sale, a new Navara can’t be far behind it.

Powertrains are yet to be confirmed but given Nissan’s sharpened focus on electrified powertrains, it might come to market with the e-Power tech or even a plug-in hybrid alternative.

The current model went on sale back in mid-2015, so will be 10 years old by the time a new model arrives.

Nissan confirmed that the Patrol will launch in fiscal year 2024, so at some point between April 2024 and March 2025. Given Nissan’s premium arm Infiniti just ripped the covers from its Patrol-based new-gen QX80 last week, we shouldn’t be waiting too long for a debut for the next Patrol.

As reported, the next Patrol will swap out the 5.8-litre 298kW/560Nm V8 petrol engine and instead use a 3.5-litre turbo V6 making 336kW and 698Nm.

In the accompanying promotional video, a number of future Nissan models are shown, albeit in darkened lighting to make it hard to work out. However, the next-gen Patrol and Navara ute are easy to pick out.

Interestingly, Nissan’s presentation also mentions the return of the Murano SUV. This was Nissan’s semi-premium medium-to-large SUV model that never took off in Australia. It’s likely that it will be for the North American market and its Australian fate is unclear.

In fiscal year 2025 Nissan will launch one new and five all-new internal combustion engine (ICE) models, then in 2026 four new and one all-new ICE model.

The plan is to launch 16 new electrified models by 2026, and that includes BEV, e-Power hybrid and plug-in hybrids.

"Of the 16 new electrified vehicles & 14 ICE vehicles launching globally, five of the all-new EVs & six of the all-new ICE vehicles will be launched in the AMIEO region. These will include some of Nissan’s most well-loved nameplates among customers, including LEAF," Nissan said in a media release, referring to the Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania region - the latter is where Australia falls.
