Standby Australia, XPeng has just given notice that it’s about to launch the G7 electric SUV, which will rival the likes of Toyota's bZ4X and Polestar 4.

Only five years ago the car world seemed to have ground to a halt with COVID-19, but now things are moving at a lightening pace with new Chinese brands introducing electric cars at a never-before-seen rate.

XPeng’s G6 mid-sized SUV was the first model from the brand to arrive in Australia when it landed here in early 2025. Now the big sister to the G6 aptly named the G7 has been revealed in China ahead of its official unveiling on June 11.

At 4892mm in length the G7 is 139mm longer than the Tesla Model Y-sized G6, but a close match in size to Toyota’s bZ4X and the Polestar 4.

The G7’s design, however, twins its G6 sibling, especially front the front with a smooth face sporting a LED light strip stretching from wheel arch to wheel arch.

The teardrop side profile of the G6 and G7 is shared, although the G7 has more coupe-like styling and the treatment of the G7’s rear, especially the tailights, is starkly different to the smaller SUV with trapezoidal shaped LED lighting.

According to reports the G7 will be powered by a single electric motor with an output of 218kW. In comparison the G6 also has a single motor driving the rear wheels but with a lower output of 210kW for the Long Range variant and 190kW for the Standard Range.

The G7 is also expected to come in Standard and Long Range forms with the former using a 68.5kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for up to 602 km of range and the latter being 80.8kWh for up to 702km.

Pricing is yet to be announced but the smaller G6 currently starts at a list price of $54,800. Buyers can expect the G7 to possibly come in close to the Polestar’s entry price of $78,500.

That’s if the G7 makes it to Australia at all with the brand yet to confirm if the model will make it Down Under.

XPeng’s model roll-out to Australia has been delayed with the brand promising to launch several models over the next 12 months including the G9 large SUV, the X9 people mover and the P7 sedan.
