The VX remains the third-tier trim level in the new LandCruiser LC300 range, but it is now $10,720 more expensive at $113,990 (MSRP). You could choose the GXL for $12,200 less, and moving up to the Sahara will cost you an extra $17,200.

The VX had become the most popular trim level with the 200 Series, and you can now pick it by its shinier wheels, silver grille and more stylised DRL headlights.

On the inside, it swaps the cloth for black or beige synthetic leather seat trim, and adds highlights like the bigger 12.3-inch multimedia screen and 10 speaker audio with a CD/DVD player (in 2021!!!), a big 7-inch display ahead of the driver, four-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and four-camera surround view. Interestingly, this is the cheapest model with auto wipers and reverse auto braking to protect from colliding with static objects.

Like all LC300 trim levels, the VX is fitted with the new 227kW/700Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel, with an official fuel consumption figure of 8.9L/100km.

Back when all cars burned fuel and couldn't drive themselves, Mal was curing boredom by scanning every car his parents' VB Commodore drove past. His childhood appreciation for the car world exploded during a three-year stint in the US, and serious questions were asked when he spent a good chunk of his uni career perfecting lap times at Wakefield Park. Mal got his big break scooping the VE II Commodore, before a stint at Overlander magazine and kicking off his online career with The Motor Report in its heyday. These days he's exactly the same height as Michael Schumacher and uses his powers for good at the helm of CarsGuide's editorial team. Mal proudly shuns brand allegiance and counts three young kids, an EH Holden, NA MX-5, KE20 Corolla, W116 Mercedes-Benz and the world's most versatile Toyota Echo among his personal stable. He also craves a Subaru Vortex, so get in touch if you know where to find one.
