The Subaru Outback AWD Touring is the Outback you buy if you want the luxury flagship version, though it is not the most expensive version of the new seventh-gen series.
Kicking off from $56,990, before on-road costs, the AWD Touring is distinct from the AWD Premium grade below it, with leather upholstery of the Nappa variety, ventilated front seats with a thigh-support extender, heated outboard rear seats, wireless charger, auto-fold mirrors with self-dipping in reverse, glossy alloys, exterior mirror auto-folding/dipping/memory and driver-seat auto-memory.
These come on top of the electric sunroof, heated steering wheel, a powered front passenger seat, 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio, 360-degree-view cameras, climate control, a 12.1-inch multimedia touchscreen, 12.3-inch electronic instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, heated/powered front seats, a powered tailgate, 'X-Mode' off-road mode, roof rails and 18-inch alloy wheels with a full-sized spare.
On the safety front, active lane change is the main addition, on top of the regular ADAS items like AEB, rear-cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a blind-spot monitor, traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and nine airbags.
Like the other Outbacks, you’ll find a 2.5-litre horizontally-opposed ‘boxer’ four-cylinder petrol engine behind the AWD Touring’s grille, offering 137kW of power at 5800rpm and 254Nm of torque at 3700rpm. It’s paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with eight artificial steps, and sends drive to all four wheels constantly. No manual gearbox is offered.
The combined average fuel consumption figure of 8.1L/100km, for a carbon dioxide emissions rating of 183 grams per kilometre. Expect to achieve about 777km from empty if you fill up your tank with the required 91 RON standard unleaded petrol.
