2022 Toyota HiLux price and features: Technology update arrives for Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara and Mazda BT-50 rival

Toyota Australia has updated the HiLux for 2022, with more technology added to the eighth-generation ute a year on from its second facelift.

As a result, though, the HiLux’s Workmate and SR grades are now $635 dearer, while its SR5, SR5+ and Rugged X variants have become $760 more expensive, and the Rogue version has increased in cost by $1210.

For reference, the ute’s range now starts from $24,225 plus on-road costs for the manual 4x2 Workmate single-cab chassis and reaches $70,750 for the automatic 4x4 Rugged X dual-cab pick-up (see full pricing table below).

So, what do buyers get for their extra spend? Well, a shark-fin antenna and Toyota Connected Services are now fitted range-wide, with the latter offering emergency call functionality and stolen-vehicle tracking.

The SR5 grade has also upgraded to dual-zone climate control, having previously had a single-zone set-up, and the Rogue variant has gained surround-view cameras, too.

As before, the Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara and Mazda BT-50 rival is available in single-, extra- and dual-cab configurations as well as cab chassis and pick-up body-styles.

The HiLux’s 150kW/500Nm 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine is mated to either a six-speed manual and or a six-speed torque-converter automatic. It has a 110kW/400Nm 2.4-litre sibling.

The ute’s also offered with a 122kW/245Nm 2.7-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which is matched to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed torque-converter automatic.

Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum.
