China’s GWM has had a cracking start to the year in Australia and it’s not slowing down anytime soon.

In 2025 it has already introduced a plethora of new models. These include the GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV ‘coupe’ SUV, updated Cannon turbo-diesel dual-cab ute, Tank 300 turbo-diesel, as well as the Cannon Alpha PHEV dual-cab ute.

The company is now also starting to roll out the updated Haval H6 mid-size SUV. The first few examples of this are powered by the unchanged hybrid powertrain.

GWM has confirmed the H6 petrol, which now produces more power and has a dual-clutch automatic with two extra ratios, will start arriving locally in August.

GWM has confirmed the new H7 mid-size SUV will be arriving locally in August. At this stage the company hasn’t disclosed the local line-up, nor the pricing.

Globally the Haval H7 is offered with both petrol, hybrid and PHEV powertrains. Only the petrol and hybrid powertrains are currently approved for local sale, according to government approval filings.

In September the first examples of the new H6 PHEV will be arriving in Australia. This new addition to the H6 line-up will be available in both two- and all-wheel drive forms.

The last new model launch GWM has disclosed publicly thus far for this year is the Tank 500 PHEV. It’s due in October.

Beyond these models, GWM has a wide range of other new vehicle launches that the company will likely share more information about later this year.

This includes the updated Ora electric hatchback which will be sourced from Holden’s old production plant in Rayong, Thailand, along with other plans for additional electric models.

GWM Australia and New Zealand Chief Operating Officer, John Kett, said the company is expecting to have a total of three electric vehicles (EVs) on sale by the end of September 2026.

One of these EVs will likely be the Ora, while the other two are currently unknown. One could be the Ora Sport liftback that’s been earmarked for a local launch for years now, and another could be a production version of the Haval Xiaolong prototype.

Earlier this year GWM publicly announced its plan to sell 50,000 cars in Australia during 2025, firmly cementing its place in the top 10 best-selling carmakers.

In the first six months a total of 25,189 vehicles were sold and the company indicates its on track to achieve its annual sales target, which will mark yet another new sales record.

Looking beyond 2025, the company aims to be a sustained top five best-seller by 2030.
