Lexus has locked in pricing for its first ever hot SUV.
The trailblazing Lexus LBX Morizo RR, the brainchild of master driver and ex-Toyota President Akio Toyoda, will arrive in Australia in the first half of 2025 priced from $76,490, before on-road costs.
The Morizo RR fills out the LBX’s silhouette with 206kW and 390Nm worth of turbo-petrol three-cylinder fury, courtesy of the GR Corolla ‘G16E-GTS’ engine in a slightly different state of tune.
A set of 10mm lower springs, stiffer dampers and revised anti-roll bars upgrade the LBX — that previously topped out at $56,990, before on-road costs — along with bespoke exterior styling including twin exit exhaust pipes finish off the look.
Although you can get a manual LBX Morizo RR in Japan, all examples bound for Australia will feature the new eight-speed automatic transmission now available on both the GR Corolla and GR Yaris in Australia.
Like the rally-bred GR products, the Morizo RR has permanent all-wheel drive with a torque splitting centre differential. It gets a rear Torsen limited-slip differential, too.
Brakes are uprated with four-piston calipers clamping 356mm ventilated rotors up front, with a set of 19-inch alloy wheels distinguishing the Morizo RR from the Sports Luxury.
Inside, the Morizo RR features black leather-accented front sports seats, a dimpled steering wheel and contrast red stitching. The only option is two-tone paint ($1750) — Lexus will confirm a full features list closer to the LBX’s local release.
As for the LBX Morizo RR’s rivals, there’s the Audi SQ2 but it’s a tamer beast. The Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 is a larger car, overall, though is probably most closely matched in other respects. It could also be cross-shopped with a Volkswagen T-Roc R or Cupra Formentor.
Not only is the LBX Morizo RR Lexus’ first truly hot SUV, it’s the first performance model to drop the ‘F’ badge (as in, the V8-powered IS F, RC F and GS F). Instead, it is Akio’s nickname ‘Morizo’ on the back of the hotted-up LBX.
The sub-UX Lexus is performing strongly in Australia, finding 1355 homes since launching in March becoming the brand’s third-best seller here, behind the mid-sized NX and large RX SUVs.
