The ST-L is the second-from-base version of the third-generation Qashqai. It replaced the previous ST+ model when the series underwent a facelift in Australia in early 2025.

Equipment levels build on the base ST’s AEB, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, seven airbags, LED front lights, dual-zone climate control, cloth seats, walk-to/away central locking, adaptive cruise control, 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a phone charger, with sat-nav, front parking sensors, 360-degree camera views and 18-inch alloy wheels.

A spacious, well-equipped and comfortable value proposition, the ST-L should be on most small SUV buyers’ short list. It also offers decent practicality, with 504 litres of cargo capacity with five seats raised and 1447L with back ones folded, while a 17-inch temporary spare lives under the floor.

The ST-L shares the ST’s 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which pumps out 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque, and uses a CVT to drive the front wheels. Naturally, then, the average combined fuel consumption/emissions figures are identical too, meaning 6.1L/100km and 138g/km of CO2 respectively.

Lastly, buyers receive a standard five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, but if they choose to service their new Qashqai at a Nissan dealer, that increases to 10 years/300,000km, as well as 10 years of roadside assistance. As with all Nissans from January 1, 2025, capped-price servicing is also included.

Byron started his motoring journalism career when he joined John Mellor in 1997 before becoming a freelance motoring writer two years later. He wrote for several motoring publications and was ABC Youth radio Triple J's "all things automotive" correspondent from 2001 to 2003. He rejoined John Mellor in early 2003 and has been with GoAutoMedia as a senior product and industry journalist ever since. With an eye for detail and a vast knowledge base of both new and used cars Byron lives and breathes motoring. His encyclopedic knowledge of cars was acquired from childhood by reading just about every issue of every car magazine ever to hit a newsstand in Australia. The child Byron was the consummate car spotter, devoured and collected anything written about cars that he could lay his hands on and by nine had driven more imaginary miles at the wheel of the family Ford Falcon in the driveway at home than many people drive in a lifetime. The teenage Byron filled in the agonising years leading up to getting his driver's license by reading the words of the leading motoring editors of the country and learning what they look for in a car and how to write it. In short, Byron loves cars and knows pretty much all there is to know about every vehicle released during his lifetime as well as most of the ones that were around before then.
