The Australian arm of French brand Renault backs every one of its models with a capped price-servicing plan, which it calls Renault Capped Price Servicing.

There are some marked differences in terms of the application of the plan, depending on the model you choose. For instance, there are some models - the Clio, Captur, Megane and Koleos - that have service intervals of every 12 months or 30,000km. But it’s worth noting that “Renault vehicles (except Kangoo) are subject to adaptive servicing requirements, as determined by the Oil Condition Sensor, and may require servicing prior to the standard 12 months or 30,000km service interval”.

Renault is quite transparent in terms of additional-cost items that will be required at specific intervals, too, stating: “Additional service items may include air filters, pollen filters, fuel filter (diesel only), accessory belts, spark plugs, coolant, gearbox oil and brake fluid and are not included in Capped Price Standard Service.” See our table below for all the details.

Performance-oriented models - the Clio RS and Megane RS - will need servicing every 12 months or 20,000km, unless the engine’s sensors tell you otherwise.

Renault Australia announced in July 2020 that it was upgrading its commercial vehicle capped-price servicing cover to consist of five years of maintenance at guaranteed prices, under its "Easy Life" ownership program. Previously the vans were only covered for three years maintenance at a capped cost.

The small Kangoo van still needs maintenance more regularly than Renault’s two larger van models, the Trafic and Master. The Kangoo’s intervals are set at 12 months/15,000km, but the larger models both have 12 month/30,000km intervals, so are suited to commercial vehicle operators.

Further, there is more included in the van range's capped-price plans now, where previously the company had more additional cost items depending on the service interval.

The Renault range has decent ownership costs, and the improved capped-price servicing plans for its commercial vehicle range will no doubt add some appeal. Shame there are still models with only three years' capped-price cover. 7/10
