XPeng attended this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and in addition to showing off some new cars, it detailed some technical details about the forthcoming updated G6 electric mid-size SUV.
The Chinese carmaker has confirmed this updated G6 has a peak DC charging rate of 451kW. For context, the current model, depending on the variant, can DC fast-charge at rates up to 215kW and 280kW, respectively.
XPeng claims this new charging rate can see the G6’s battery go from 10 to 80 per cent in 12 minutes.
It’s yet to be confirmed if this higher 451kW DC fast-charging rate will be offered in Australia. If it does, the updated G6 will become Australia’s fastest-charging electric vehicle (EV). This title currently goes to the Porsche Taycan which can offer up to 320kW of peak DC fast-charging.
Even if the updated XPeng G6 does offer 451kW DC fast-charging, the fastest DC chargers in Australia are 350kW.
In addition to the faster DC charging rate, the updated G6 also features new batteries that still operate on an 800V electrical architecture.
The entry-level G6 Standard Range now gets a 68.5kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which is up from a 66kWh LFP unit in the current car.
The G6 Long Range has a 80.8kWh LFP battery. This is down from the 87kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) lithium-ion battery in the current car.
XPeng also notes the G6 Performance trim gets this new 80.8kWh LFP battery as well. This model is currently only offered in China and it’s unclear if it will be offered in other markets in updated form.
As a result of having a smaller battery in the G6 Long Range and Performance, it has a shorter claimed driving range.

XPeng claims the updated G6 can drive up to 535km on a single charge, according to WLTP testing. For context, the current G6 Long Range can travel up to 570km, according to WLTP testing.
As previously reported, other key changes with the updated XPeng G6 include a slightly revised exterior with a new LED front light bar, different alloy wheel designs, as well as a tweaked tailgate with a new spoiler.
Inside there’s a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen multimedia system (up from a 14.9-inch unit) with a new Qualcomm 8295 processor, new steering wheel, 9-inch digital rear-view mirror, woodgrain dash trim, suede-effect roofliner, and manual air vent adjusters, among other minor changes.
Despite the current XPeng G6 only launching in Australia during 2024, this updated model is set to arrive in early 2026.
At this stage it’s unclear how much the pricing will differ. Currently the XPeng G6 Standard Range costs $54,800 before on-roads and the G6 Long Range costs $59,800 before on-roads.
