The second-step up the 2023 Ford Everest range is the Trend, which follows a very similar trajectory to the entry-level version, but adds plenty of additional equipment.

The Trend grade is available in a 4x2 rear-wheel drive version for $60,290 (MSRP), while the 4x4 version adds a premium of five grand for 4x4 at $65,290 (MSRP).

Both versions run the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel engine producing 154kW of power and 500Nm of torque, which is better than competitive for the class. The fuel consumption claim varies between 4x2 (7.1L/100km) and 4x4 (7.2L/100km). Towing capacity, across all Everest models, is 750kg for an unbraked trailer, and 3500kg for a braked trailer.

Unlike the Ambiente, the Trend scores seven seats as standard, and builds upon the standard gear of the Ambiente to help you feel like you’re getting your $7300 extra spend.

It has standard 18-inch wheels (which can be upgraded to 18s with all-terrain tyres for $500), an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.0-inch portrait media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and sat nav, LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, seven seats, rear privacy glass, a powered tailgate, and leather-trimmed seats. Buyers of the Trend can specify heated and ventilated front seats with electric adjustment for an extra $900.

As with the Ambiente, Trend models come with a strong complement of safety equipment, including high speed AEB with pedestrian, cyclist and junction detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed reverse AEB, a reversing camera, and front and rear parking sensors, along with nine airbags including full-length three-row curtain airbag coverage.
