The Ford Everest Ambiente remains the entry point to the new-generation model range, and like the existing version, it comes with a choice of 4x2 (rear-wheel drive) or 4x4 (four-wheel drive).

The Ambiente 4x2 is $52,990 plus on-road costs, and the 4x4 Ambiente model is $57,990 plus on-road costs. Is the $5000 jump worth it? You don’t get any extra equipment to justify it!

In fact, the Ambiente is the only model in the Everest range that asks you to pay more for third-row seats, with the seven-seat option adding $950 to the price.

Standard equipment on Ambiente includes 17-inch wheels, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch portrait media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, cloth seat trim, a plastic steering wheel, keyless entry with proximity unlocking and push-button start, and more.

Choose the 4x4 and you get the brand’s ‘permanent 4WD’ system with high and low range, and a four-wheel drive setting you can select for on-road driving. You can also option all-terrain tyres on 18-inch wheels for $1100 extra.

The Ambiente is powered by a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine producing 154kW of power and 500Nm of torque, which are very competitive outputs in the class (and better than most rivals). It has a 10-speed automatic transmission as standard. Fuel consumption is claimed at 7.1L/100km for the 4x2 and 7.2L/100km for the 4x4.

Towing capacity, across all Everest models, is 750kg for an unbraked trailer, and 3500kg for a braked trailer.

All Everest models come with a strong complement of safety equipment, including high speed AEB with pedestrian, cyclist and junction detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed reverse AEB, a reversing camera, and front and rear parking sensors, along with nine airbags including full-length three-row curtain airbag coverage.
