Our most recent review of the 2022 Isuzu D-Max resulted in a score of 9.5 out of 10 for that particular example.
Carsguide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar had this to say at the time: The Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain is an awesome ute that combines true practicality and versatility for growing families. It still has most creature comforts but the powerful turbo-diesel engine has the grunt to satisfy those still needing a workhorse that also moonlights as the family car.

The 2022 Isuzu D-Max carries a braked towing capacity of up to 3500 Kg, but check to ensure this applies to the configuration you're considering.

The Isuzu D-Max 2022 prices range from $25,190 for the basic trim level Single Cab SX (4X2) High-Ride to $64,680 for the top of the range Dual Cab X-Terrain (4X4).
Just like most ute customers, those in the market for a 2021 Isuzu D-Max will have the choice of more than a handful of accessories to fit to their ute. And that’s the genuine accessories catalog we’re talking about - don’t even get us started on aftermarket options.
The list includes options for nudge bars and bull bars, all of which are designed to work with the advanced driver safety assistance systems including AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection. But take note - there are no genuine Isuzu bull bar options with winch capability, though there are points to attach aerials.
There are other protective options like bonnet protector and headlight protector choices, not to mention weathershields, side steps, roof rack systems, and different wheel choices.
Other accessories include: snorkel, roof rails, rubber floor mats, canopy, hard tonneau cover, tub liner / bed liner, soft tonneau cover, rubber tray mat, ladder rack, driving lights and more.
If you’re not going for a pick-up and want to go with a dealer-fit tray option for your cab-chassis single, extra or double cab D-Max, you’ll be happy to know there are a few choices available including aluminium and steel trays, and accessories like underbody storage optional, too.
It sounds very much like the vehicle has gone into limp-home mode. This is a self-preservation system whereby the engine and drastically reduces the power it’s producing, limits top speed and often locks the transmission into a low gear. Something has happened that has caused this, and a common reason is that something in the engine, fuel system, or (more likely) the transmission has started to get too hot with the strain of towing.
With luck, full operation will be restored once the vehicle has been allowed to cool down. But you may need to visit a dealership to have things reset. It’s always a good idea to do a full engine and transmission fluid and filter change after any overheating event anyway.

The list of possible causes for a modern turbo-diesel engine not to start would fill a pretty large book, and there’s no point trying to guess the problem. If the engine is cranking but nothing else is happening, most mechanics will start by looking at the fuel system. There could be a problem with the tank pick-up, the fuel rail, the injectors, the filters and many more components. But a check of the fuel delivery pressure and volume is a good place to start.
But this is not a job for the amateur in their driveway. Modern diesels use super high injector pressures, and, if there’s any residual pressure in the system when you crack it open, that pressure is enough to remove fingers, just like a high-pressure water jet can cut steel.

Cars are often less than perfect and problems can show up once they are released on to a particular market with particular conditions. But every new make and model that hits the road and is eligible for registration has to pass a range of tests and certifications before the government will allow that to happen. So your question is really one for government, but the reality is that in many cases, nobody can see these problems coming.
Meanwhile, while I won’t speak for every `information’ source on the internet, I can say without fear of contradiction that no road tester or writer for Carsguide accepts payments from car importers for their opinion. Social media influencers may be a different matter, but I promise you that anything published on Carsguide is the truth and in no way influenced by the car maker or importer. We now live in an age where you need to be very careful where you source your information, but Cargsuide is one source you can trust. It’s something the writers (my colleagues) are very proud of.

The interior of the new-generation 2021 Isuzu D-Max is perhaps one of the biggest improvements over the previous model, and that’s saying something because this new ute is much improved in many ways.
The thing is, though, that you get a bit more wow factor in the cabin than before, with the top two grades getting a 9.0-inch touchscreen media unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and USB-connect Android Auto. Plus these variants have additional USB charging in the rear row if you choose a dual cab, too.
The lower grades get a 7.0-inch screen which still has the smartphone tech but doesn’t look quite as amazing, as the bezel is the same size. But compared to the last model, this is a huge step forward.
There are also much improved materials, though the base grades (SX and LS-M) still get rubber floors and hard-wearing fabric seats. The LS-U has fabric seats and carpet flooring, while the X-Terrain steps things up with leather accented seats. Both the LS-U and X-Terrain have leather-trimmed steering wheels.
Wondering how many seats are in the 2021 Isuzu D-Max? That’ll depend on the body-style you choose.
The single cab versions are two-seater only. No bench seats here to rub sweaty shoulders with your workmates, and there’s even a centre front airbag to protect both occupants in the event of a side-impact collision.
The extra cab models are also two-seat only. Previously, extra cab (or space cab, in Isuzu speak) models had four seats, including two rear spots for passengers. But not anymore, as the brand reckons the safety standards it has set for the new-generation model wouldn’t be met by having human occupants in the back of this body ute.
Choose a dual cab (or double cab) of any model grade and you’ll find yourself with five seats. The rear is foldable to allow secure storage if you don’t need all five positions filled, and there are dual ISOFIX child seat tethers and two top-tether hooks (that feed to a centre secure lashing location - you can’t fit three child seats in the back).
It has been reported that the D-Max can achieve 0-100km/h acceleration in just under 9.8 seconds.
