Mercedes-Benz’s GLB could be the most underrated SUV from the brand with its seven-seater practicality at a good price, but now the entry fee has gone up as the standard features list has expanded.

All grades now come standard with AMG Line exterior styling, a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels, power adjustable and heated front seats and metallic paint.

This is in addition to a tweak to the GLB's styling which sees a new front bumper, tough-looking protection pieces, side decals to enhance the shoulder shape, plus new LED headlights and tail-lights.

Pricing has increased, with the GLB200 SUV entry-grade now listing for $72,900 (up by $5900), then stepping up to the GLB250 4Matic SUV for $84,100 (up $3531) and for the range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLB35 4Matic the list price is now $102,900 (up $431).

The GLB35 4Matic is the high-performance member of the family with its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder making an impressive 225kW

Standard equipment on the GLB35 4Matic includes sports seats, leather upholstery, AMG floor mats, rear privacy glass and black roof rails. There’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch central media display with sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a Burmester sound system and three-zone climate control.

The entry-grade GLB200 also has a 2.0-litre engine but it’s the least powerful in the range with 120kW. Standard features on the GLB200 include synthetic leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch media display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and dual-zone climate control.

The GLB250 4Matic has a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine making 165kW and has the same standard features as the GLB200 plus also gains the AMG leather interior package,

Mercedes-Benz’s GLB sits below the GLC in the brand's line-up, even if at 4638mm end-to-end, it's less than 80mm shorter. Despite its smaller size the GLB is a practical (boxy?) alternative to the GLC and even accommodates three rows of seating for seven people.

The best part of this was being given money to buy stickers. She loved stickers… which then turned into a love of tattoos. Out of boredom, she learnt to drive at 14 on her parents’ bush property in what can only be described as a heavily modified Toyota LandCruiser.   At the age of 17 she was told she couldn’t have a V8 Holden ute by her mother, which led to Laura and her father laying in the driveway for three months building a six-cylinder ute with more horsepower than a V8.   Since then she’s only ever owned V8s, with a Ford Falcon XW and a Holden Monaro CV8 part of her collection over the years.  Laura has authored two books and worked as a journalist writing about science, cars, music, TV, cars, art, food, cars, finance, architecture, theatre, cars, film and cars. But, mainly cars.   A wife and parent, her current daily driver is a chopped 1951 Ford Tudor with a V8.
